social worker

What inspired you to work in this field?

What inspired me to work in this field is the ability to change people’s lives. I’ve always been a caring person who desires to address and advocate for the community’s needs.

What motivated you to join the team?

Substance abuse has always been one of the social issues that made me so invested in trying to solve during my university days. My research topic was “The effect of substance abuse amongst secondary school learners” and during data collection I realized that dealing with the effects only leaves a huge impact if the underlying issues/ contributing factors are not addressed properly. Pace Recovery centre offers the holistic approach which gives one the ability to tackle people’s problems holistically not only focusing on the addiction but mental, psychological and physical wellbeing of the clients.

What unique qualities or experience do you bring to your role?

I have social work experience in diverse settings, with a strong background in research, group facilitation, community engagement, case management, and administrative functions. I bring empathy, effective communication, cultural competence, and problem-solving skills, while fostering relationship building and demonstrating resilience. My practice is grounded in ethical standards, guided by professional values, and committed to delivering meaningful support and positive outcomes.

What aspects of your job do you find most rewarding?

Addressing social problems and advocating for their rights. Bringing change into clients lives and enabling them to believe that change is possible.

Memorable success story?

Mediating conflict between family members and being able to restore the reconciliation in the family.

What do you find challenging working in this field?

I see myself as a jack of all trades and an enabler, my profession requires creativity at all times, my opinion matters the most in every decision taken which sometimes gives me burn out. However, I view this not as a challenge, but as an opportunity to be independent and creative, which in turn strengthens my leadership skills.

What values or principles guide your approach to supporting the clients?

As a social worker, I ground my practice in principles that shape both my attitude and my actions. I uphold confidentiality to build trust and rapport, while honoring self-determination by supporting each client’s right to make their own choices with my guidance. I remain non-judgmental and accepting, meeting clients where they are without criticism or blame, and I recognize the uniqueness of every individual, treating each person with dignity and respect, whether in one-on-one or group settings. I also practice controlled emotional involvement, balancing empathy with clear professional boundaries. Alongside these values, I am committed to service — addressing the needs and problems of those I support — and to social justice, advocating for rights and challenging systemic inequities. I affirm the inherent worth of every individual and the importance of human relationships as a foundation for healing and change. Integrity and competence remain central to my work, as I act with accountability, trustworthiness, and a dedication to ongoing professional growth.
