PRE-ADMISSIONS

Before admission can take place, there are several factors that need to be taken into consideration. These factors ensure that the individual receives the most appropriate and effective care for their unique needs.

Intervention-Treatment-Program-PRC.png

INTERVENTION

Is the client willing to be admitted?

Acknowledging and addressing a loved one's problem requires careful planning and preparation. Conducting a successful intervention entails ensuring that everyone involved understands the process and their roles.

Detox-Treatment-Program-PRC.png

dETOX

A telephonic pre-screening will be done to assess if the client needs hospitalised detoxification.

Factors that are taken into consideration:

  • drug of choice;

  • amount and length of abuse;

  • method of use;

  • age; and

  • co-existing medical and/or psychiatric conditions.

Mental-State-Treatment-Program.png

MENTAL Health

Factors such as the presence of co-occurring mental health disorders, emotional stability, and overall psychological functioning are carefully evaluated to advise an appropriate program.

"AWAKENING IS NOT CHANGING WHO YOU ARE, BUT DISCARDING WHO YOU ARE NOT"

Embarking on the journey of recovery from substance abuse is a significant and courageous decision. Our program is specifically designed to address these factors and guide individuals toward a healthier and more fulfilling life free from addiction.

Our-Process-Of-Recovery.png

INDIVIDUALISED TREATMENT

With the establishment of individual treatment plans, we use several tools which form part of our integrated model of recovery. Some of these tools will also apply to group activities.

Integral assessments and assignments are conducted throughout the first week of admission. All assessments are prepared to take critical information into consideration when developing their Individual Treatment Plans. Assessments will typically include the following:

MEDICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT

A thorough physical and psychological evaluation is done by our consulting general practitioner. This is to assess the overall state of physical well-being and the possible harm that has already been done through the abuse of a particular substance or combination of substances.

Medical-and-Psychological-Assessment.png

INTAKE ASSESSMENTS

A psychosocial assessment of current life stressors, mental health issues, relationship issues, and psychological status is done by the Social Worker, Occupational Therapist and Recovery Coaches respectively.

This includes a family assessment to examine particular nurturing and/or restrictive functions of the client's support system.

Intake-Assessment-Treatment-Program.png

ASSIGNMENTS

Reflecting on the impact that the substance has had over one's life in areas such as social, family, financial, health, etc, to determine if there is any possible denial in their substance use.

Assignments-Treatment-Program-PRC.png

PERSONALITY PROFILING AND STRENGHTS SURVEYS

The importance of this assessment is that it provides one with self-reflection and understanding and provides an introspective self-report about how you perceive the world around you and make decisions. Completing this assessment allows for an increased ability to predict clinically relevant information and to develop effective treatment strategies.

Personality-Profiling-Strenghts-Surveys.png

INDIVIDUAL TREATMENT PLAN

The IDP defines and outlines the course of treatment. The goals align with one’s desired outcome, followed by measurable, time-sensitive steps toward achieving them. It will reflect as an agreement between the case managers and the client.

Individual-Treatment-Plan-Program.png

INTEGRATIVE HEALING APPROACHES

Body-Stress-Release-Treatment.png

BODY STRESS RELEASE (bsr)

The BSR approach is based on the idea that physical and emotional stress can cause the muscles and connective tissues in the body to tighten and become imbalanced. This can lead to a range of symptoms, including pain, stiffness, fatigue, and reduced mobility.

Reiki-Healing-Treatment-Program.png

REIKI HEALING

As a complementary therapy, the aim is to restore balance and promote healing in the body by working with the body's natural energy systems. It’s healing is based on the principle that the body has an innate ability to heal itself, and that by addressing imbalances in the body's energy field, the body's natural healing processes can be stimulated.

EFT-Tapping-Treatment-Program.png

EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE (EFT) THERAPY

Also referred to as tapping or psychological acupressure, this modality creates balance in your energy system while tapping on meridian points (energy hot spots). It relieves symptoms of negative experiences or emotions while clearing it from the subconscious.

Human-Design-Treatment-Program.png

HUMAN DESIGN

Human Design is a system into an individual's unique energetic blueprint. It offers a framework for understanding one's personality traits, strengths, and areas of potential growth. By aligning with their design, individuals can make decisions and live in harmony with their authentic selves, fostering self-acceptance and personal growth.

Trauma-Release-Exercises-Treatment.png

TENSION & TRAUMA RELEASING EXERCISES (TRE)

Tension and Trauma Release Exercises (TRE) are a set of simple exercises that trigger a natural tremoring reflex in the body to release stress, tension, and trauma. By resetting the body's stress response systems, TRE relieves the chronic effects of stress and supports general well-being. It taps into the body's innate ability to shake off accumulated tension, similar to how animals naturally release stress. Practised under guidance, TRE offers a straightforward yet powerful approach to promoting physical and mental health.

Psychology-Treatment-Program-PRC.png

PSYCHOLOGY

Psychology, the study of the human mind and behaviour, has diverse applications in enhancing people's lives. It offers insight into mental health, enabling individuals to gain a deeper understanding of their thoughts, emotions, and actions, especially for those dealing with conditions like depression, anxiety, or trauma.

TWELVE STEPS PROGRAM

PRC-Recovery-Treatment-Program-04.png

"it works IF you work it, so work it cause you are worth it!"

The basic premise of this model is that people can help one another achieve and maintain abstinence from substances of abuse. It allows for mental and emotional transformative practices and tools.

  • The ability to recognize and admit that one is experiencing an addiction problem.

  • Surrender to the fact that the addiction exists and a decision to seek control through an outer guide.

  • A chance to practice that restraint and build self-esteem in one’s positive capabilities.

  • Achievement of self-acceptance and the ability to change behaviours.

  • Self-observation and awareness of the behaviours that were part of and arose from the addiction, as well as those that help promote self-restraint.

  • Compassion, both for those who have been affected by the addiction and for others who similarly struggle with addiction.

  • Tools that make the process a continual practice throughout the individual’s life.

Program includes:

  • Dedicated Recovery Coaches

  • Step Work Slots and Step Work Introduction Groups

  • “Just For Today” Meetings and Fellowship Meetings

GROUPS

Group sessions are carefully selected to cover a wide area of concerns that typically surround the nature of addiction. These groups are therapeutic-related, educational and/or support-driven.

AFTERCARE

Relapse is defined as an event, or stimuli that cause an individual in recovery, to resort to the use of a mind-altering substance, following a prolonged period of abstinence. The National Institute of Drug Abuse reports that between 40 – 60 percent of individuals are at risk of relapsing during the first twelve months of recovery. A fundamental function of addiction treatment is promoting long-term recovery through relapse prevention programming, and therefore a continuum of support post-primary rehabilitation treatment is critical to successful recovery.

PRC-Recovery-Treatment-Program-06.png

The aftercare treatment plan answers the need for continued support and is developed as a collaboration between the client, family/loved ones, and the case management team. Types of areas explored in the aftercare plan include the following:

  • Routine

  • Fellowship meetings attendance

  • Friends and relationships

  • Social

  • Employment and monies

  • Body Image

  • Medication

  • Continued specialists visits

  • Triggers to avoid

  • Behaviours

  • Boundaries

ADDICTION:
A FAMILY DISEASE

Addiction is a family disease and we treat it as such. Family integration is a very sensitive matter to us and a lot of effort goes into assisting the family to handle their situation in the best possible way.

Not only is regular feedback necessary but a true asset in assisting in reconnecting recovering addict with their families.

A lot of relationships are broken due to certain behaviours of the addicts, not having enough knowledge about the disease or a general sense of hopelessness.

We hope to achieve this through family meetings and support groups. It is imperative for recovering addicts to have a healthy environment to go back to once they are reintegrated with society after treatment.

We encourage family members to take advantage of the family counselling sessions we offer. This service is offered as part of the treatment package. These sessions pertain to immediate family members or significant others who have been affected by their loved one’s addiction.

FOR THE FAMILIES

PRC-Recovery-Treatment-Program-08.png

"Family is the anchor that holds us through life's storms."

Having a loved one struggling with addiction can be a challenging and emotional journey for the entire family. Often, the focus is primarily on the individual battling addiction, but it is equally important for family members to engage in self-development and personal growth to improve relationships and foster healing within the family unit.

Engaging in self-work as a family member of an addict offers an opportunity for personal growth and self-discovery. It allows individuals to explore their own strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement. Through self-reflection and personal development, family members can cultivate resilience, develop coping strategies, and gain a deeper understanding of themselves. This personal growth not only benefits the individual but also contributes to the overall well-being of the family unit.

HOW DO I CHOOSE A PROGRAM?

Admittedly choosing the length of treatment for your loved one can be intimidating. However, research shows that the best outcomes are with longer durations of treatment. You need to ensure that the decision allows for an opportunity for a higher chance of long-term success.

PRC-Recovery-Treatment-Program-09.png

Why is the 3-month program the most popular?

A three-month program allows for in-depth exploration of the underlying causes of substance use. Addressing the behaviours associated with substance dependence is just as important as tackling the substance use itself. This duration provides ample time for therapeutic interventions and enables the formulation of a comprehensive aftercare plan based on the observed challenges.

When is a 21-day program recommended?

A 21-day program may be suitable when less severe withdrawal is expected, and minimal downtime from the program is anticipated. It is appropriate for individuals who acknowledge their problem, display a willingness to commit to recovery, and can emotionally handle a deep exploration of their drug use. However, this program is not recommended for individuals who struggle with procrastination. Additionally, those who have previously undergone intensive treatment and maintained long periods of sobriety before relapse may also be good candidates for this duration.

Best suited for the extended primary program of 7-weeks?

A 7-week treatment program can be a suitable option for individuals who require a focused and intensive approach to their recovery. While shorter than the aforementioned durations, a 7-week program still allows for significant progress and provides a structured environment for individuals to address their substance abuse issues. This duration may be appropriate for individuals with less severe addiction or those who have previously undergone treatment and are seeking additional support to solidify their recovery.

Why would the 6-month program be ideal?

A six-month program is recommended for individuals who have experienced multiple short-term treatment programs with frequent relapses. It may indicate the presence of underlying issues that have yet to be discovered or properly addressed. Severe dual diagnosis (the co-occurrence of substance abuse disorder and a mental illness) can also impact the duration of treatment. Dual-diagnosis individuals may experience prolonged periods of high or low moods, which can affect treatment outcomes.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY

BhekuN

I arrived at PRC recovery on the 10/08/2022, by the time I arrived they welcomed me with warm hands. I felt at home. I wish that they can continue welcoming other people like me. I got orientated and they gave me my own personal timetable so that I can know what is happening at particular times. They also did a drug test so they can know exactly what my drug of choice is. The coaches and the counsellors are free, you can ask anything from them, they can help you. If you are sick the take you to the doctor. There is a sick room here. Bring the weak and the professional nurse is always there. The group counselling helped me a lot. There are also individual sessions with the social worker.

PhumlaniM

EN

When I arrived at PRC Recovery I was scared, confused and still in denial that my addiction is a problem. After the first week I noticed while working on step work, attending sessions and also the AA/NA meetings, that I have hurt so many people, myself included. After completing step one and my life story, I realized that I can manage my addiction. I just need to be open-minded and willing to ask for help. Now that I am leaving, I feel comfortable to face the challenges outside, knowing that I am not alone.

LizzyL

From the very first day when I checked in on the 25th of July 2022 I felt at home. The whole staff welcomed me with warm hands. I still remember each one of them gave me a hug. That put my mind at ease. The very same day we had a session with Persty, and I participated. I felt free during group. That is where I realized that I made the best decision to come to PRC recovery. The fellowship was so nice and still is. My stay at PRC Recovery was 100% enjoyable. I will always remember upon arrival, Megan asking me "Lizzy are you ready?" I proudly responded - Yes, I am ready." No words can describe how much I appreciate the help and love I received at PRC Recovery. I will miss you.

RV

I came to PRC Recovery as a broken and selfish person. I did not think that my feelings would ever go away. The step 1 made it worse but I eventually understand and realise that I am the most important person and that it is me that must get better, nobody else.

MM

GENERAL RULES & EXPECTATIONS

PRC-Recovery-Treatment-Program-10.png

Having a cell phone-free environment during the recovery process can be incredibly helpful and conducive to a successful recovery journey. When individuals do not have a cell phone with them, it eliminates distractions and allows them to fully focus on their healing and self-reflection. It creates a space where they can disconnect from the outside world and the potential triggers or stressors that come with it. This absence of constant connectivity promotes a sense of presence, mindfulness, and deeper engagement in therapeutic activities, group sessions, and personal reflection. It fosters a supportive environment where individuals can truly immerse themselves in the recovery process, build stronger connections with peers and professionals, and develop healthier coping mechanisms without the distractions and temptations that a cell phone may bring. Ultimately, a cell phone-free environment provides a conducive setting for individuals to fully commit to their recovery and make the most out of their treatment experience.

Contact with Family:

  • Clients are provided with two designated phone call slots per week after the first week, with the exception of contacting their children. Each call is for 10 minutes. These time slots are specifically allocated for communication with supportive family and friends, with the aim of either maintaining existing healthy relationships or relationships in need of reconciliation. Clients on Step 4 are allowed additional phone calls on a Saturday of 20 minutes. Video calls are allowed. We want to inform you that we retain the right to restrict or withhold phone calls, and we will always provide prior communication regarding such decisions.

  • Upon completion of Step 3, clients may be eligible to receive visitors. This signifies an important milestone in their recovery journey, as it indicates progress and readiness for reintegration with loved ones.

  • Furthermore, once clients have successfully completed Step 5, they may have the opportunity to spend a day outside of the facility with their visitors. This step marks a significant achievement in their treatment, demonstrating their commitment and growth, and allows for moments of connection and enjoyment in a supportive and supervised environment.

During the entry sessions and orientation process, we cover the guidelines and expectations both within the facility and throughout the program. While we prioritize a flexible and individualized approach, certain rules and expectations are necessary to foster an environment conducive to each client's recovery and progress in their program.

House Rules:

  • No alcohol or drugs will be allowed onto the premises.

  • No willful damage to house property.

  • No weapons, threats, intimidation or violence will not be tolerated.

  • No romantic, sexual or exclusive relationships with fellow residents.

  • No theft of property.

  • No romanticizing of drug or alcohol use.

  • Hate speech will not be tolerated.

  • Knowledge of another client breaking the rules and not reporting it.

  • Disrespectful conduct towards staff, volunteers or head residents.

Further Considerations:

Duties: Assigning responsibilities empowers individuals to take ownership of their actions and decisions, fostering a sense of accountability and personal growth. Engaging in duties enhances self-discipline, time management, and organization skills, which are essential for long-term sobriety. Moreover, contributing to the program's functioning instils a sense of purpose, self-worth, and belonging, creating a supportive community where individuals can thrive in their recovery.

Food: At our facility, we prioritize providing nutritional meals carefully designed by a dietician to support the recovery process. While we strive to accommodate various dietary needs and preferences, catering to every individual's specific requirements may not be feasible due to the diverse nature of these needs. However, we make every effort to offer a balanced and wholesome menu that promotes overall well-being. Our team is always available to discuss any dietary concerns and work collaboratively to ensure the best possible nutritional support for each client.

Environment: While we make our best efforts to create an aesthetically pleasing environment, it's important to note that we are not a star-rated facility. Our focus lies in providing a comfortable and supportive space for individuals to embark on their recovery journey. We prioritize the overall ambience, cleanliness, and functionality of our facility to ensure a conducive atmosphere for healing and growth.

While we understand personal preferences regarding duties, food, and environment, it's crucial to recognize that these aspects can become excuses that hinder an individual's focus on recovery. While we strive to accommodate individual needs to the best of our ability, it's important for clients to prioritize their journey to wellness over personal preferences. By maintaining a proactive mindset and embracing the program's structure, individuals can navigate potential challenges and use them as opportunities for growth, ultimately enhancing their chances of successful recovery.
